[07-14-2024] Riverside County, CA – One Person Killed, Two Others Injured Following Suspected Two-Vehicle DUI Collision in Indio

[07-14-2024] One Person Killed, Two Others Injured Following Suspected Two-Vehicle DUI Collision in IndioOne person was killed, and two others were injured following a suspected two-vehicle DUI collision in Indio on early Sunday morning, July 14, 2024. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2:40 a.m. near the intersection of the Sonny Bono Memorial (10) Freeway and Monroe Street. 

Authorities stated that a 2022 Jeep Wrangler was heading the wrong way going eastbound in the westbound lane of the freeway. Meanwhile, a 2024 Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound east of Jefferson at an unknown speed. Despite both cars making an evasive attempt to avoid the crash, they still collided head-on. 

The Toyota driver, identified as 41-year-old Juan R. from Palm Strings, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. As of this writing, there is no word yet on the condition of the injured victims. 

Police said that the driver of the Jeep was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The suspect’s name, age, and place of origin were not immediately disclosed. 

Additional details have yet to be released by the responding officers.
