[07-11-2025] One Injured, Suspected DUI Driver Arrested After Two Crashes in BerkeleyA motorist was injured after being rear-ended by a suspected intoxicated driver who later crashed into a pole in Berkeley on Friday morning, July 11, 2025.

According to the Berkeley Police Department, the incident began when 44-year-old Daniel L. rear-ended a vehicle at a stoplight on westbound Alcatraz Avenue at Sacramento Street, causing that car to hit a second vehicle. 

Daniel stopped briefly to exchange information but left before officers arrived around 11:00 a.m.

Witnesses told authorities that Daniel appeared impaired. Officers located his 2002 Toyota Tacoma a short time later, traveling north on Sacramento Street near University Avenue. When police attempted a traffic stop, Daniel crashed into a power pole while pulling over to the curb.

He was arrested at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
