[07-04-2024] Injuries Reported Following Two-Vehicle Collision Along Highway 46 Near CholameInjuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision near Cholame, San Luis Obispo County, on Thursday night, July 4, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the traffic incident occurred at about 9:36 p.m. along Highway 46 near the Cholame Y interchange.

CHP said that one of the vehicles involved was in the turn pocket and was about to go left onto northbound SR-41 from eastbound SR-46. At the same time, the other vehicle was traveling westbound on SR-46 just east of the Cholame Y. As both cars approached the intersection, the car about to turn left went directly in front of the westbound car, causing the crash.

The authorities described the incident as a head-on crash with some people getting trapped inside the vehicle, including children. The CHP said that no one was seriously injured, and a broken wrist may be the worst anyone had sustained.

The total number of injured individuals was not disclosed, and no one from either party involved has been publicly identified yet.

Authorities believe that driver impairment is not a factor in the accident. Further information was not immediately available. 

CHP’s investigation into the collision is ongoing.
