[07-03-2024] Merced County, CA – Man Seriously Injured After Pedestrian Vs. Big Rig Collision Near Cressy Way

A man was seriously injured after a pedestrian vs. big rig collision in Merced County early Wednesday morning, July 3, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 4:00 a.m. on the frontage road south of Cressy Way, between Atwater and Livingston.

Initial reports suggest that the big rig driver failed to recognize that he struck the victim immediately. The driver reportedly pulled over when he thought he hit something and checked his cameras. Only then did he realize that he had run over someone.

After that, the big rig’s driver called 911 to report the incident. When authorities arrived, they found the victim, a man, with major injuries and airlifted him to a hospital in Modesto for treatment. Further information about the identity of the male victim was not available.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Officers have since ruled out the possibility of alcohol or drugs as factors.
