[06-29-2024] Female Passenger Hospitalized After Single-Vehicle DUI Collision in BakersfieldA female passenger was hospitalized after a single-vehicle DUI collision in southwest Bakersfield late Saturday night, June 29, 2024.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the vehicular crash happened at about 11:52 p.m. at the intersection of Panama Lane and Buena Vista Road.

The circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear, but authorities said the crashed vehicle had two occupants when the incident occurred: a male driver and a female passenger. 

When police arrived, they found the vehicle overturned on its side with the female passenger trapped inside. Rescuers had to use the jaws of life to extricate the woman before she was transported to the hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries.

The male driver was subsequently discovered to be intoxicated and had no driver’s license at the time of the crash. He was booked into jail for DUI.

Neither of the two individuals involved were publicly identified. It is also not immediately known how the two are related.
