[06-28-2024] Rider Killed After Motorcycle Vs. Vehicle DUI Collision Along Mount Whitney AvenueA rider was killed after a motorcycle vs. vehicle DUI collision in Fresno County on Friday night, June 28, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly traffic incident happened just after 9:00 p.m. on Mount Whitney Avenue and East Street, west of Laton.

CHP said that the motorcyclist was going west on Mount Whitney Avenue, approaching the intersection with East Street, when he was suddenly struck by a pickup truck that supposedly drove through a stop sign.

It is not immediately known if the pickup driver, later identified as a 17-year-old boy, failed to stop at the stop sign or yield when he abruptly entered the intersection. Authorities then confirmed that they had arrested the juvenile for driving under the influence.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased was not immediately available. 

CHP is still gathering all the necessary evidence to determine the official cause of the accident.
