Three motorcyclists were killed, and two others were injured following a multi-vehicle collision in San Diego County early Thursday morning, June 27, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the major crash happened around 3:00 a.m. along I-5 near Camp Pendleton.

Authorities stated that a Jeep was traveling along the highway when, for some reason, it crashed into the left shoulder guardrail, swerved back onto the freeway lanes, and then came to a rest. After a moment, an oncoming Mercedes-Benz van crashed into the disabled Jeep. A group of four motorcyclists then collided with the van and the Jeep, causing further vehicle damage and casualties.

Three of the four motorcyclists were declared dead at the scene, while two people were injured and transported via helicopter to Scripps La Jolla Hospital. The names, ages, and genders of the victims were not yet disclosed. Details on the condition of the injured individuals have yet to be released once they become available.

All southbound lanes of I-5 between Las Pulgas and SR-76 were closed until mid-morning. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and take alternative routes as a precaution.

No further details regarding the crash were provided, and the authorities are gathering all the necessary information to determine the factors leading up to the incident.

Investigations are ongoing.

Don’t Know What To Do After An Accident?

Your safety and rights depend on what you do next after an accident. Remember the following steps if you find yourself in one:

  • Check yourself for any injuries.
  • Stay on the scene, call 9-1-1, and wait for emergency responders.
  • Move your vehicle to the road shoulder if safe; turn on hazard lights.
  • Fully cooperate with law enforcement and stay until cleared to leave.
  • Document the scene and injuries with photos and videos.
  • Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Contact your insurance company and find a personal injury lawyer for legal advice.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You

Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
