[06-24-2024] San Bernardino County, CA – Two People Seriously Injured Following Fiery Four-Vehicle Collision Along I-10 in Fontana

Two people were seriously injured following a fiery four-vehicle collision in Fontana on Monday afternoon, June 24, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the massive vehicular crash happened at about 3:19 p.m. along westbound Interstate 10, west of Cherry Avenue.

The freeway accident involved a pickup truck, a sedan, a big rig, and an SUV. A preliminary investigation suggested that the pickup stalled along westbound I-10 for unknown reasons. The sedan behind the pickup slowed down safely, but the big rig following it did not, causing a rear-end crash between them.

The initial crash is believed to have caused the stalled pickup to overturn, breaking its fuel line and causing a fire on the freeway. San Bernardino County Fire Department quickly acted and extinguished the flames before it became a major concern.

How the SUV got involved in the reported four-vehicle incident is still unclear.

CHP later confirmed that two people were injured in the accident and were transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for further medical care. It is not immediately known in which vehicles the two injured individuals were at the time of the collision.

No further information was immediately available, and the authorities are still gathering all the necessary details to determine the factors leading up to the fiery incident.
