[06-23-2024] Colusa County, CA – Two People Killed After Suspected Two-Vehicle DUI Collision Along I-5

Two people were killed after a suspected two-vehicle DUI collision in Colusa County on Sunday morning, June 23, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened around 4:47 a.m. on I-5 between Williams and Arbuckle.

Authorities stated that a 33-year-old man from Elk Grove was driving the wrong way on the freeway. He was in a 2006 BMW 530i traveling northbound in the no.1 southbound lane at an unknown rate of speed. Meanwhile, a 38-year-old woman from Long Beach was driving a 2004 Ford Taurus southbound in the no.1 lane.

Since the Elk Grove man was driving in the wrong way, his vehicle collided head-on with the approaching Ford Taurus. The man sustained fatal injuries, and the woman sustained major injuries. Emergency personnel transported the woman to an out-of-area hospital, but she eventually died due to her injuries.

Additional details on the identity of the deceased were not immediately disclosed. DUI is suspected as a factor in the collision.

No further details were provided by the authorities. Investigations are ongoing.

Don’t Know What To Do After An Accident?

Your safety and rights depend on what you do next after an accident. Remember the following steps if you find yourself in one:

  • Check yourself for any injuries.
  • Stay on the scene, call 9-1-1, and wait for emergency responders.
  • Move your vehicle to the road shoulder if safe; turn on hazard lights.
  • Fully cooperate with law enforcement and stay until cleared to leave.
  • Document the scene and injuries with photos and videos.
  • Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Contact your insurance company and find a personal injury lawyer for legal advice.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You

Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
