A woman was killed after a suspected DUI crash sent a car into a canal in Fresno on Saturday night, June 21, 2025.
According to Fresno police, officers responded to the area of Floradora Avenue and Clark Street shortly after 10:30 p.m. and found a vehicle had veered off the road and into a water-filled canal.
Divers from the Fresno Fire Department rescued a man and a woman from the submerged vehicle. However, a second woman was reportedly swept away by the canal’s undertow and could not be recovered due to the cold and fast-moving current.
Police said the driver, identified only as a man, was arrested on suspicion of DUI following evaluation by the department’s traffic unit.
Efforts to recover the deceased victim’s body are ongoing. The crash remains under investigation.
