[06-19-2026] San Diego County, CA – E-Bicyclist Critically Injured in Collision with Vehicle in Clairemont Mesa East

A 23-year-old man riding an E-bicycle was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle in the Clairemont Mesa East neighborhood in San Diego County on Friday evening, June 19, 2026.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the crash was reported around 5:20 p.m. on the 5800 block of Balboa Avenue.

Preliminary investigation indicates the bicyclist was traveling westbound and attempted a left turn from the turning lane when he was struck by a 2024 black Ford Lightning traveling eastbound.

The impact caused the driver to hit the bicyclist on the right side. The victim sustained multiple broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and a stretched vestibular artery.

Alcohol or drugs were not considered factors in the collision. San Diego Police Traffic Division detectives are investigating the crash.
