[06-19-2024] San Benito County, CA – One Person Killed, Another Injured Following Two-Vehicle Head-On Crash Along Shore Road

[06-19-2024] One Person Killed, Another Injured Following Two-Vehicle Head-On Crash Along Shore RoadOne person was killed, while another was injured following a two-vehicle head-on crash in San Benito County early Wednesday morning, June 19, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened at about 3:55 a.m. along Shore Road, just east of Lake Road and north of Hollister.

CHP stated that the incident involved a 20-year-old man driving a Toyota Camry and a 67-year-old man driving an unspecified vehicle. The elderly driver was later identified as Delbert P.

Initial investigations suggested that the Toyota was eastbound on Shore Road while Delbert P.’s vehicle was westbound. It is said that the crash occurred when the 20-year-old driver suddenly crossed over the double yellow lines in the roadway and directly into the path of the much older driver. This resulted in a head-on collision that injured both men.

The still unnamed driver of the Toyota was transported to Hazel Hawkins Hospital with the intention of moving him to Natividad Hospital afterward. However, he died due to his injuries on the way to the medical facility. Delbert P., meanwhile, was hospitalized with only minor injuries.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. As of now, drug or alcohol involvement doesn’t seem likely, said CHP.

Further information will be provided by the authorities as soon as they become available. Investigations are underway.

Don’t Know What To Do After An Accident?

Your safety and rights depend on what you do next after an accident. Remember the following steps if you find yourself in one:

  • Check yourself for any injuries.
  • Stay on the scene, call 9-1-1, and wait for emergency responders.
  • Move your vehicle to the road shoulder if safe; turn on hazard lights.
  • Fully cooperate with law enforcement and stay until cleared to leave.
  • Document the scene and injuries with photos and videos.
  • Seek immediate medical attention.
  • Contact your insurance company and find a personal injury lawyer for legal advice.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You

Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
