A 62-year-old man was killed, and another man was injured after being struck by a vehicle in Bakersfield on Saturday night, June 6, 2026.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the incident was reported around 9:59 p.m. at the intersection of Kern Street and Dolores Street.
Officers found two men in the roadway upon arrival. One pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment, while the other sustained severe injuries and was later pronounced dead. The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 62-year-old Martin A. of Bakersfield.
Police reported that the driver had just turned north onto Kern Street from Dolores Street when the pedestrians walked in front of the vehicle outside of a crosswalk.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Officials stated that neither speed nor intoxication was a factor in the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
