According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at about 10:22 a.m. along US-395 near Conway Summit and north of Mono City.

CHP confirmed that the crash involved a white Jeep and a box truck. The circumstances behind the incident remain unclear, but the officers categorized it as a serious head-on collision.

The jeep driver was said to be trapped inside their vehicle when emergency services arrived. Reports stated that the incident resulted in one person sustaining fatal injuries and the other with a head injury. The victims’ names, ages, and genders were not disclosed at this time.

It is unclear if the deceased person was the trapped jeep driver or the truck driver. The survivor’s current condition was not provided. Neither of the two people involved has been identified yet.

All northbound traffic around the area was stopped at Virginia Lakes. The southbound traffic, meanwhile, remained open but was also considerably affected by the collision. Diesel spillage covering about 100-120 feet of the roadway was also reported.

Additional information was not immediately available. The CHP is still gathering all the necessary details to determine the cause of the accident.
