Two people were killed when their SUV slammed into the back of a parked semi-trailer on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Sylmar, Los Angeles, on Thursday night, May 29, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 10:41 p.m. near the Roxford Street exit.
Officers arrived to find a dark-colored SUV had rear-ended a semi-truck that was parked on the freeway’s shoulder.
The SUV caught fire upon impact, and its airbags deployed. Both occupants of the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was reportedly uninjured.
The identities of the deceased have not been released pending next-of-kin notification. The CHP is still investigating the cause of the crash.
