[05-29-2024] One Person Killed, Another Hospitalized Following Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 65One person was killed, and another was hospitalized following a multi-vehicle crash in Delano on Wednesday night, May 29, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 6:22 p.m. along Highway 65, south of Sherwood Avenue, east of Delano. 

Authorities stated that three vehicles, including a Toyota, a Dodge, and a Chevrolet, were involved in the crash. Initial investigation showed that the male driver of the Toyota, as well as his 18-year-old female passenger, was heading northbound along the southbound lanes of Highway 65 in an attempt to pass northbound traffic. 

Meanwhile, the 50-year-old Bakersfield man driving a Dodge was traveling southbound on Highway 65 when his vehicle collided head-on with the Toyota. The Chevrolet traveling southbound behind the Dodge also crashed into the Toyota, resulting in significant vehicle damage. 

Both the Toyota and the Dodge came to rest in a downhill embankment west of the roadway, while the Chevrolet came to rest in the southbound lanes. The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene, and one person was transported to the hospital for treatment. 

It is unknown what caused the collision. No additional details were provided. 

The investigation continues.
