Two people were seriously injured in a head-on collision on State Route 44 in Shasta County on Monday afternoon, May 19, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3:20 p.m. when a driver traveling westbound attempted to pass a truck by entering the eastbound lane. The vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle, which was traveling eastbound.
The impact was unavoidable due to the speed and suddenness of the maneuver. Both drivers sustained major injuries. One driver was transported by ambulance to Banner before being transferred to Renown Medical Center. The other driver was airlifted to Shasta Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The incident remains under investigation.
