[05-16-2026] San Joaquin County, CA – Man Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 4 in Stockton

A man was killed following a head-on crash in Stockton on Saturday afternoon, May 16, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 12:17 p.m. on Highway 4.

Authorities stated that a Tesla Model X carrying a 51-year-old Stockton man and two juvenile passengers was traveling westbound when a Kia sedan driven by a 38-year-old Stockton man entered the westbound lane. 

Officials said the Tesla driver attempted to avoid the collision by veering left, but the Kia driver swerved back to the right, resulting in a head-on crash.

Following the impact, the Kia became airborne and landed in a drainage ditch approximately 20 feet south of the highway. The driver of the Kia was found unconscious and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

The Kia driver was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Tesla driver and the two juvenile passengers sustained moderate injuries but declined medical treatment and were later picked up by family members.

The investigation remains ongoing.
