[05-15-2024] 52-Year-Old Rider Killed Following Moped Vs. Vehicle Collision in Moss LandingA 52-year-old rider was killed following a moped vs. vehicle collision in Moss Landing, Monterey County, on Wednesday morning, May 15, 2024. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 5:48 a.m. on Castroville Boulevard and Elkhorn Road. 

Authorities stated that a 27-year-old Watsonville man was driving a red Honda Civic approaching east on Castroville Boulevard. The driver was preparing to make a left turn going to northbound Elkhorn Road. Meanwhile, the 52-year-old man riding a red Honda Forza Moped was going west on Castroville Boulevard while approaching Elkhorn Road. 

As the driver attempted to make a left turn, the moped collided head-on with the vehicle, causing its rider to be ejected. 

Police said that the moped rider, identified as Michael C. of Prunedale, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda stayed on the scene to cooperate with the responding officials. 

No further information was released, and the authorities are gathering all the necessary details to determine the cause of the crash.
