[05-09-2025] Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Two Vehicles on E. California Avenue in BakersfieldA pedestrian was killed after being struck by two vehicles while crossing the roadway on East California Avenue in Bakersfield on Friday night, May 9, 2025.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of E. California Avenue at approximately 8:53 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian-involved crash. They arrived to find an adult male suffering from major injuries in the roadway.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

A preliminary investigation revealed the man was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle. After the initial impact, he was hit again by a second vehicle also traveling eastbound.

Both drivers remained at the scene. Police said the first driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. Speed is not believed to be a factor in the incident.

The crash remains under investigation by the Bakersfield Police Department.
