[05-05-2024] One Person Killed, Another Hospitalized After Pursuit Led to Multi-Vehicle Collision in OntarioOne person was killed, while another was hospitalized after a police pursuit led to a multi-vehicle collision in Ontario on Sunday morning, May 5, 2024.

According to the Ontario Police Department, the deadly incident happened just after 10:30 a.m. near Grove Avenue and Philadelphia Street.

OPD said that they received a disturbance report around the area at about 10:30 a.m., wherein two women said they were being threatened by one of their boyfriends using a firearm. Officers tried to resolve the matter peacefully, but the man fled using a vehicle instead. This initiated a high-speed pursuit.

The man recklessly drove on the wrong side of the road on Highway 60 with the police on his back. Upon arriving near the Grove Avenue and Philadelphia Street intersection, the suspect vehicle crashed into an innocent motorist’s car, which then resulted in a chain of crashes.

Unwilling to stop, the man jumped out of his vehicle and tried carjacking another driver using his gun. The ordeal only came to a stop near Cucamonga Avenue and Cedar Street after police were left with no choice and shot the man. The suspect was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Two people were injured as a result of the multi-vehicle collision caused by the suspect’s reckless driving. One of them died, while the other was hospitalized for minor injuries. The identities of the victims were not disclosed.

Further details were not immediately available. Police work is underway.
