A 45-year-old male pedestrian was killed following a suspected DUI crash in San Diego on Thursday night, May 2, 2024.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the deadly incident occurred at around 9:10 p.m. at the El Cajon Boulevard and 50th Street intersection in the Colina Del Sol neighborhood.
SDPD said that the man was crossing El Cajon Boulevard at 50th Street when he was struck by an eastbound Ford sedan driven by a 20-year-old man.
The victim, later identified as 45-year-old Jairo G., a Hispanic man, suffered major head trauma as a result of the collision. He was quickly taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries at the facility.
The 20-year-old driver involved in the crash was reportedly arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. SDPD is yet to release the identity of the suspected drunk driver.
A police investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to the fatal accident is encouraged to contact the authorities immediately.
