[04-17-2024] Contra Costa County, CA – 6-Year-Old Boy Killed, Three Others Injured, After Hit-And-Run Crash in Richmond

[04-17-2024] 6-Year-Old Boy Killed, Three Others Injured, After Hit-And-Run Crash in RichmondA 6-year-old boy was killed, while three others were injured, including other children, after a hit-and-run crash in Richmond on Wednesday evening, April 17, 2024.

According to the authorities, the fatal accident happened at about 7:20 p.m. near Carlson Boulevard and Cutting Boulevard.

Investigators said that a vehicle going about 70 to 80 mph crashed into another vehicle containing a family near the intersection. The driver then tried to leave the scene but was stopped by good Samaritans who were around when the incident happened.

The collision killed 6-year-old Amadeo A. Jr., a Little League baseball player, and injured one adult and two other children inside the family car. There is no information yet on the current status of the injured individuals, but they are expected to survive.

Authorities arrested the driver who caused the collision and identified him as 29-year-old Ramiro B. It was later discovered that this was actually his second hit-and-run incident on that day. He allegedly first crashed into a parked car near a taco truck before speeding off onto the city streets of Richmond. It appears that no one was hurt in the first accident.

Following his arrest, the hit-and-run driver allegedly said that he took three shots of liquor and a painkiller before driving. He was charged on Monday, April 21, 2024, with three felonies: gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, and DUI causing injury.

The hit-and-run driver is currently being held in jail in Contra Costa County. No further information was immediately available.

Don’t Know What To Do After An Accident?

Your safety and rights depend on what you do next after an accident. Remember the following steps if you find yourself in one:

  • Check yourself for any injuries.

  • Stay on the scene, call 9-1-1, and wait for emergency responders.

  • Move your vehicle to the road shoulder if safe; turn on hazard lights.

  • Fully cooperate with law enforcement and stay until cleared to leave.

  • Document the scene and injuries with photos and videos.

  • Seek immediate medical attention.

  • Contact your insurance company and find a personal injury lawyer for legal advice.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You

Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation.

The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
