A man was bitten and a toy poodle was fatally attacked by a pit bull near the intersection of Main and Strand streets in Santa Monica on Friday evening, April 11, 2025.
According to the Santa Monica Police Department, the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. The pit bull, described as gray and white, lunged at the toy poodle, causing fatal injuries. The poodle’s owner, Alyssa K., watched in horror as her dog, Dublin, was mauled.
Christopher D., Alyssa’s boyfriend, attempted to rescue Dublin and was bitten by the pit bull during the struggle. The attacker fled the scene with the leashed pit bull and was captured on nearby surveillance footage running away.
Dublin died while being rushed to a pet hospital by a neighbor. Alyssa and Christopher have been placing flyers around their Ocean Park neighborhood in hopes of identifying the dog’s owner and finding accountability.
The SMPD is investigating the incident.
