[04-07-2024] Contra Costa County, CA – 9-Year-Old Passenger Killed, Four Others Injured Following Hit-And-Run Crash in Concord

A 9-year-old passenger was killed, and four others were injured following a hit-and-run crash in Concord early Sunday morning, April 7, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident occurred around 5:14 a.m. at the northbound Interstate 680/Highway 24 split.

A gray Mazda CX-9 was heading north when a 30-year-old motorist drove the vehicle through the dirt median, causing it to overturn multiple times before landing upside down.

The child was declared dead at the scene, while four other females suffered major injuries and were taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

Additional reports indicate that several occupants were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
