A man was fatally struck and his dog injured while they were out walking in the Carmel Valley area of San Diego on Sunday evening, April 6, 2025.
According to the San Diego Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 6:00 p.m. to the 5000 block of Carmel Knolls Drive near Almondwood Way following a report that a man had been hit by a westbound Lexus.
The report was made by the victim’s wife, who witnessed the incident, police stated.
The man was found unresponsive at the scene and was transported to Scripps Health in La Jolla, where he was later pronounced dead. Bystanders brought the injured dog to a veterinarian, although the pet’s condition was not immediately known.
The driver of the Lexus remained at the scene. An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing, according to authorities.
