A female driver was trapped in her SUV after a two-vehicle crash on the 2500 block of Freedom Boulevard in Santa Cruz County on Wednesday afternoon, April 1, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the male driver of a Ford F550 flatbed pickup towing an 18-foot flatbed trailer was traveling north on Freedom Boulevard when he attempted a left turn into an agricultural field around 1:50 p.m.
His pickup collided with the front end of a Ford Escape SUV driven by a female traveling south. The impact left the woman briefly trapped in her heavily damaged SUV.
Firefighters from Cal Fire and Watsonville Fire safely extricated the woman, who was then transported to an out-of-county trauma center by American Medical Response.
The incident is still under investigation.
