Two people were killed, and another was injured in a DUI crash on southbound Interstate 880 near Davis Street in San Leandro early Saturday morning, March 21, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 5:30 a.m. when a black Nissan Maxima crashed into a post supporting an exit sign and became wedged between the post and a guardrail. The vehicle had three occupants: two men and one woman.
The two men, who were the driver and a passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger was transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley with minor injuries and is expected to survive.
Authorities stated that alcohol or drugs are believed to have contributed to the crash based on statements from the surviving passenger. Investigators also indicated that none of the occupants appeared to be wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
The investigation remains ongoing.
