[03-16-2026] Alameda County, CA – Big-Rig Overturns in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-880 in Oakland

A big-rig overturned in a multi-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 880 in Oakland early Monday morning, March 16, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded around 4:00 a.m. to the freeway near 23rd Avenue after receiving reports of a collision involving at least two cars and a tractor-trailer. The crash caused the big-rig to overturn on the roadway.

Authorities closed all southbound lanes following the collision. As of about 6:10 a.m., the left and center lanes remained blocked while crews worked to remove the overturned truck.

Officials later reported that all southbound lanes were reopened shortly before 7 a.m.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
