[02-14-2026] San Diego County, CA – Man Seriously Injured, Dog Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Roswell St.

A 22-year-old man suffered serious injuries, and a dog was killed in a hit-and-run crash in San Diego’s Emerald Hills neighborhood Saturday night, February 14, 2026.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident was reported at around 10:00 p.m. in the 5300 block of Roswell Street near Hilltop Drive.

Police said the man was crossing the street with his dog in the east unmarked crosswalk when a driver failed to stop at a stop sign and struck them.

San Diego Fire-Rescue crews responded and treated the victim at the scene. Authorities reported that the man sustained fractures to both shins, a dislocated left ankle, and a fracture to his lower spine. The dog died at the scene.

Police initially described the injuries as non-life-threatening, though the victim’s family later stated that he was in intensive care at a local hospital. Officers said it remains unclear whether driving under the influence was a factor, and a description of the vehicle was not immediately available.

The SDPD Traffic Division is handling the investigation.
