A driver sustained major injuries after being hit and pinned by a vehicle while fixing tire chains on Highway 50 near Twin Bridges, El Dorado County, on Friday, February 7, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a man in his 50s pulled over a Nissan on a curve east of Twin Bridges around 10:00 a.m. to adjust his tire chains. His wife and three children remained inside the vehicle.
As the man was working on the left rear tire, a Subaru, traveling between 45 and 55 mph, lost control in the slush and slid into the Nissan. The impact pinned the driver between the two vehicles, pushing the Nissan against a guard rail.
Emergency responders transported the man to the hospital with major injuries.
The Subaru was occupied by three men in their 20s. Authorities stated that the Subaru driver was not charged or cited.
The investigation is ongoing.
