A 21-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle on North Rancho Drive south of Arvin early Monday morning, January 25, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers were called around 4:52 a.m. to the area of North Rancho Drive and Rancho Road.
A preliminary investigation found that a 23-year-old man was driving a 2010 Honda Civic southbound on North Rancho Drive, south of Rancho Road, when he struck the woman who was lying in the roadway for reasons still under investigation.
CHP stated that the driver was unable to take evasive action and struck the woman, causing severe injuries. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the woman dead.
Authorities said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
CHP reported that alcohol or drugs were not factors for the driver, though it was unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role for the pedestrian.
The crash remains under investigation.
