An Arizona man was killed after walking into the path of a Toyota Venza on westbound Interstate 8 in El Cajon on Saturday morning, January 17, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 1:20 a.m. when the pedestrian, who was walking from Mollison Avenue, entered the roadway in low-lighting conditions.
The driver of the Toyota, a 49-year-old man, was unable to avoid the pedestrian, resulting in the collision.
The 21-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The driver of the Toyota was not injured.
Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
