[01-08-2026] Riverside County, CA – Motorist Injured After Head-On Crash at Harley John Road and Cajalco Rd. East of Lake Mathews

A motorist was injured following a head-on collision east of Lake Mathews in Riverside County on Thursday afternoon, January 8, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported shortly after 1:00 p.m. at the intersection of Harley John Road and Cajalco Road.

CHP reported that two vehicles collided head-on at an unconfirmed speed, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. Riverside County Fire Department paramedics responded within minutes and located one motorist with unspecified injuries. The injured individual was transported to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley and was reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities said the other motorist involved was not injured. Tow trucks were requested to remove the damaged vehicles, and CHP officers partially shut down the intersection. The roadway remained closed as of approximately 1:40 p.m., though all lanes were expected to reopen before 3:00 p.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
