[01-04-2026] Kern County, CA – At Least One Killed After Vehicle Vs. Pedestrian Crash in Bakersfield

At least one person was killed after a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash in Bakersfield on Sunday night, January 4, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 9:08 p.m. on westbound Highway 178 near Union Avenue.

CHP said the collision resulted in the closure of the Union Avenue off-ramp. The Kern County Coroner’s Office was requested to respond to the scene.

Authorities did not immediately release the identity of the deceased, and it was not known whether anyone else was injured in the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
